I hope I am wrong, but I believe this clinic uses scare tactics to make you spend more money. I went late at night with a blocked cat, and after temporarily draining his bladder (to buy more time until regular vet was open) I was told he would rapidly decline and possibly pass away over night. Dr. Neal even recommended euthanasia. I was distraught, and broken to tears as they sent me away to watch my cat die over money. I can't imagine anything more heartless.
Once I got him home and resting on the coach I noticed his ear had been opened. He had his ears cropped about two weeks before taking him into this animal hospital and they we're healed and on track for posting.
The service they gave my dog was honestly the best! The Dr we had seen how special he was to me and my boyfriend and he did everything he could to help my dog. Hands down the best vet ever! The staff was so kind and generous.
Our dog got worse in 3 hours (it was 8pm by then), so I called the clinic back and asked if we could get on the wait list, so we didn't have to sit with the sick dog again for hours or could we be seen quicker, since we already spent 2 hours waiting just 3 hours earlier. The answer was no, we had to sit and wait another 1.5-2 hours, because that was their current wait time. We ended up going to another place, which was absolutely like a night and day compared to this one, and we were in and out within an hour at the other place including getting x-rays done and getting a diagnosis which wasn't bone or kennel cough but something very different and dangerous and the dog needed immediate treatment or could get complications and die. On top of our misery with this place, one of their rooms has a broken window that doesn't close. They placed our family with the dog into this room. Our little kids froze even in their jackets. After waiting 40 minutes, I went and asked a frond desk person for a heater or moving us to another room. They moved us to another room once it was available but why would you place a family with little kids into a room that is freezing cold (it was 40 degrees outside that day and pouring rain)? They admitted that it was cold. I understand that they were afraid that the dog may be contagious (cough, etc) but why do they have a room that is not suitable to stay in for a such long time. Fix the window, close with blankets or bring a heater if you need people to use the room. We have seen several vet doctors (including ER vet doctors) with our animals, but this was one of the worst experiences we ever had.
By the way, at the time of this post, it is a minimum charge of $85 just to come in and be seen after hours. Hopefully that is helpful for anyone in an emergency situation as they are reading this.
I wouldn't recommend letting your animal out of site. I'm not claiming this is their practices with every case, but this is a terrible experience for myself and my puppy.
I laid awake all night with him, making sure he would make it. They didn't even warn me the pain medicines side effects closely resembled what the said he may do if he was about to pass. Thank God for Google. First thing in the morning my regular vet squeezed us in and immediately went to work treating my kitty. For what I was quoted almost $3000 for at Cottonwood, my regular veterinarian ended up charging $590. He's currently doing well in their hospital recuperating. I was told that majority of blocked cats survive, and my cat was very alert and healthy and has a high chance of survival. I should be able to pick him up tomorrow.
I'll start of by saying the staff is very professional, informative and friendly. Took my puppy into this animal hospital after sometime of experiencing him being lethargic. He wasn't walking or very active, even during the time under examination with the vets. After running tests and having him returned to me, he was still not very active. I simply carried him to my car to continue resting, without examining him on return.
I've been going to Cottonwood for several years and I have recommend this facility to others. Unfortunately I won't be returning. My dog had surgery two years ago and the problem has returned. My issue isn't that the surgery failed, my issue is that I have to pay to be seen again because their surgery failed. I understand they have to make money, but they should also stand by their work. I was told this problem was "common" by a tech on the phone today, at the time of the surgery the vet NEVER used that language. The vet ASSURED me this would work and they would take care of it. Charging me just to have my dog seen again is not taking care of anything. Now I'm starting from scratch and going to another animal hospital. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement.
Just an update, my cat has been home for a week now and is doing exceptionally well. I hope that Dr. Neal sees this and feels extreme guilt for trying to tell me to euthanize my cat. How heartless can you be?????!!!
Not the best experience. Our dog was miserable. We thought he was chocking on the chicken drumstick/ thighs bone that he ate by accident. He was coughing, gagging, spitting out nonstop, so we rushed to Pet ER. We ended up waiting for 2 hours including seeing a doctor (Dr. Neal) for 5 minutes at most, who only asked couple questions (nothing close to what another ER doctor asked at another location later in the day) and then asked what we would like to do. He said "I can get you antibiotics as it could be a kennel cough." But he wasn't confident that it was that especially when we told him that our dog wasn't boarded for 2 months, didn't have any contact with other dogs and mostly stays inside and goes for a walk in the fenced yard but could have gotten it via air, shoes, clothes. Then he added, "we can get x-rays done to see if there is blockage because of the bone or just do nothing, wait and see?" And here we are sitting and trying to figure out what to do. He completely transferred decision-making on us without giving us his thoughts and opinions (trying to avoid liability or what?). When we go to see a doctor, we expect to see a professional who can tell us what is happening or at least help us to make a decision and tell us what is needed to get the answers. After us asking would he x-ray his dog in this case, he said if it was his, he wouldn't. My husband and I concluded ourselves that the kennel cough is a very unlikely given our circumstances that the dog doesn't have contacts with other dogs and we don't wear shoes in our house, and we ended up leaving with getting no real help but paying $85. He told us to come back for antibiotics later in the day if we wanted them just in case for the kennel cough. The entire visit with the doctor was rushed and felt like they didn't care at all.
I realize this post is very vague, and I'm not trying to disparage anyone. I expect people to do as they say and follow through with services that were paid for. This institution once operated that way, that's why this is so upsetting to me.
Please, always get a second opinion. I appreciate them helping buy time for my cat to make it through the night, even with a $200 price tag, (he's worth the world, I'd pay every last dime I had to save him). But if an Emergency veterinarian recommends euthanasia, please get a second opinion.
Roughly half of one of his ears is completely opened and fresh. I'm not sure what kind of torque would have to happen for a closed laceration to open, but it was plenty of force. The mistreatment behind doors is unsettling. I would of gladly stayed with him to hold or distract while they preformed any tests... I'm beyond irritated with this. If this has damaged his process or outcome for his ears there will be actions taken against this animal hospital.
