I love this store but they are getting a two star review for some seriously poor/angry customer service. A friend and I met here to spend some time together in the coffee shop. We both bought a deck of tarot cards through the cashier at the coffee shop and we were playing with them. At 15 minutes to close, they announced the store was closing. At 10 til, same thing and then the harassment by some gentlemen and I think the store manager began. I am assuming they did this because they thought we still needed to buy the cards and didn't know we had already purchased them at the coffee shop. At five minutes, the announcement was made with anger and the announcer said "we will be closing in "five SHORT MINUTES!" and my friend and I began to gather our things. The gentlemen came over and stood by us, and followed us around, then walked to the door and was saying some crummy stuff under his breath. As we walked out my friend said, "oh look at that, with two minutes to spare!' and he said something rude in return. I felt like I was being thrown out. What could have happened was. We could have walked out the door on time, without stalkerish behavior and pressure. We would have left on time either way. The guy was huffing and puffing like he was going to have a heart attack. I have spent THOUSANDS OF dollars at this store over the last 10 years, including a Barnes and Noble membership I have carried over all that time. I will be going to Sugarhouse or Bountiful from now on, unless I receive some explanation. If they guys wife was in the hospital having a baby, ok I get it. Otherwise, it was totally unnecessary and he could have simply asked me if I bought the cards yet and if I needed to go through the register. Or simply waited for me to leave the store when it closed.
Thanks for ruining my son's Christmas. One of your employees was supposed to put something on for hold for me and did not. So I thought it would be there when I got there so I didn't order it anywhere else. But you sold it! They told me they would hold it no problem. This is why people should just shop online.
This place has a library feel with hip employees....seems off balance. Service was great and in no way does my rating go against them...its just the environment.
I think Barnes and Noble is the only real place left to buy books. I realize there is the internet but I like the brick and mortar version much better. I also appreciate the teas that are available.
[*ALERT*] Please watch your children when at this store or in this area. Always accompany them to the restroom! There is a restroom stalker / possible offender seen at this store. He may be going around to other places. This man tried to look under the stall at me so I am writing this to warn others. The restroom is located directly next to the children's reading area in the back of the store. This man was seen wearing reading glasses and shorts. I have reported him to the store manager but they couldn't get his face on camera. He ran out of the store. Please note Barnes and Noble Murray Utah!
